Another year, another Great Pumpkin Walk! The students at Hillcrest Elementary carved 60 pumpkins to help decorate and the gardens on the grounds have been transformed into a spooky landscape, said Kendra King, our Berwick House Active Living Manager. There is also an interactive activity every year and for 2019, staff have created a Harry Potter library for all the young witches and wizards in Greater Victoria. These drop-in events are free and take place at three of our seven locations: Berwick House, Berwick Royal Oak and Berwick on the Lake (Nanaimo). This event started at Berwick House and have been continuing on for the last four years. It’s all about opening our doors to our local communities and inviting people of all generations to interact together and join in on the fun during this festive time of year. Our relationship with Hillcrest Elementary has been incredibly positive and we look forward to this event every year. “There’s nothing better then when are kids together with the residents here,” said Sarah Ball, Hillcrest Elementary English language specialist and event co-organizer, Sarah Hall. “Everyone leaves with what they need. Everyone’s smiling. The kids talk about it for days after, and I know the seniors talk about it for days after.”
If you plan to visit us tonight (Wednesday), remember to bring a canned food item as we’re collecting for the Mustard Seed.
Happy Halloween!
