From pickleball courts to the rooftop patio and lounge, the newest Berwick is distinctly Parksville!
The roof is on, they’re putting in windows and starting work on the rooftop patio and lounge. Berwick Parksville is really happening! So get ready Parksville!
The building won’t be ready to welcome its first residents until spring of next year, but we’ve got an inside scoop at what’s in the works.
The Berwick Way
Gordon Denford had been building homes in Western Canada for over 30 years when he turned his attention to senior living in the 1980s. He and his son Chris Denford wanted to create a space designed specifically for seniors, one that far exceeded the standards of the day and supported active lives. They started with Berwick House in Victoria, and now, 30 years later, have seven locations (six on the Island and one in Kamloops). Berwick Parksville will be their eighth.
“Each Berwick is unique, and captures the very best of the community they’re in,” says Corinna Ludovici, Community Relations Manager at Berwick Parksville. “For Parksville we’ve chosen a contemporary west coast design inspired by white sandy beaches. The finishing and decor in every Berwick is carefully thought out for years in advance — some provided by local artists and some that offer rich history.”
Every Berwick incorporates nourishing outdoor spaces for daily walks, gardening club, or an afternoon gathering with friends at Tweeds Coffee. Berwick Parksville is going a step further, taking full advantage of Parksville’s unbeatable climate with pickleball courts, a putting green and lawn bowling too.
“We’re going to have a stand-alone Art Pavilion where residents will be able to embrace and explore the arts, be that painting, clay, woodwork, beading, art walks, classroom learning, musical performances, fashion shows… the possibilities are endless! Every Berwick has a theatre, but the size of the theatre, the stage and adjacent green room will draw/entice performers to Berwick Parksville,” Ludovici says.
“I’m looking forward to using that as a community gathering place — performances from local schools, speakers and musicians from the community. We want to be a part of the community, not separate or isolated.”
Parksville’s only rooftop patio
Now that the roof’s on, construction can begin on the sixth floor rooftop patio, a four-season space with 360-degree views of the ocean, the mountains and downtown Parksville.
“The views will be incredible, just gorgeous. If you can’t see the mountains or the ocean from your suite, you can surely take them in from the rooftop patio and lounge,” Ludovici says.
Berwick Parksville will be independent living, a luxury resort lifestyle the older adult can embrace. With options to dine in multiple venues from a casual grab-and-go, formal dining or an authentic pub. Relax with the convenience of weekly housekeeping and enhanced living services.
You’ll have the flexibility to join in on programs and events or find that quiet corner in the library. The choice is yours at Berwick Parksville — the upscale services will always be there.
